A "apropriação cultural" explicada por acaso

Numa discussão nos comentários a The Thin Blue Line Flag, nos Bleeding Heart Libertarians:

Sean II:

Eh, this one doesn't quite work. The reason is intent. Although stupid and cheesy and jingoistic, the blue line thing is intended to flatter both cops and flag worshippers. That's why the old glory fans don't complain. The overlap is close to 100%. It's the culture war equivalent of combining chocolate and peanut butter - two great signals joined together in one trollicious political snack.

You'll notice the same guys also fail to complain when hot country music video girls wear Stars and Stripes microkinis. It's because they like tits AND patriotism, and they assume - quite reasonably - that the girls share their fondness for the symbol (or are, at any rate, game to pretend). No inconsistency required.
R. Levine:
I'm not sure if you'll endorse this conclusion, but I think you may have inadvertently provided about the best steelmanning of the various "cultural appropriation is wrong" type positions
